Finally! A place for all of my pictures, info, and even a few stories as I work my way through each cake & occasion.

To each his own!
This cake was one of the funniest cakes to make. It was even funnier to explain! A good friend Robyn asked me to make a cake for her boss who had taken a new job. It was filled with inside jokes, nick names, and key phrases from her "dutch hammer" employer. The end result was a tasty vanilla cake with raspberry filling. Thanks for the occasion Robyn!!

I need your help!
Hi friends and cake lovers! I'm writing with a very big request. WEtv.com is running a contest from now until noon on October 8th. Contestants (that's me) can upload photos of cakes daily to be "rated" by other website viewers. The cake with the highest ranking at the end of the contest will win $2500! The contest allows for two runner ups, but let's face it... it's more fun to win first place!
Right now there are a few impressive cakes in the lead, but if I can get enough votes I can definitely win! If you have a moment to vote, please do. It is my understanding that you can "rank" cakes as often as you want!
To find my cakes search (on the right hand side of the page) for these titles:
Tasty Tree
Something Blue* (not borrowed)
One Sweet Lime
Madison Project
Zebra Print
Birthday in the Sky
King of the Jungle
They will each be added daily (one entry per day, they say) so start at the top, and work your way down if you are searching.
THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Melissa and Clayton: "The Party of the Year"
What a night! I love attending the events for which my cake is created. It makes the connection between the cake and the client so much more meaningful. Melissa and Clayton's wedding was an absolute BLAST! Everyone in attendance cut loose, and it was clear that we all shared and supported the love they both showed for each other. Melissa looked beautiful and they put on quite a show. I feel proud to check this event off my list, but I'm a bit sad that it's come and gone! Luckily I'll be able to keep Melissa and Clayton in my life as friends. I hope every couple is this enjoyable to work with!
The baby shower cake fit for a king
I've found with cake making that it's "once a client, always a client." I really enjoy making second and third cakes for the same people. One of my best friends growing up threw a baby shower for her older sister, and her mom and her thought to call me for the cake. I love baby showers because they have such fun themes. The possibilities are endless! Clearly, this shower had a jungle theme.

A big weekend coming up!
Melissa and Clayton's wedding is this weekend. This is a cake I've been looking forward to for almost a year now. Melissa is a friend who, like many others, have trusted me to make their cake as a friend first and a vendor second. I have loved the chance to build my business alongside Melissa and Clayton (among many other friends) and I can't wait to see how the cake turns out. I will be attending the wedding as guest as well as the cake maker and it means a lot to share in their special day in more than one way. Pictures of the cake will follow the weekend's celebration. As for now- let the baking begin for this 5 tier creation!!

Kait's Cupcakes
Kait and Tom got married in a beautiful barn near her home in Mount Solon, VA. She was at another friend Krista's wedding last summer and loved the idea of serving cupcakes for her own celebration. The first flavor was a coconut cupcake with lime buttercream (just like Krista!) and the second was a white chocolate cupcake with strawberry buttercream. We picked the suitcases to top the white chocolate cupcakes because it represented her relationship with Tom. Tom is a native Aussie, and they've done a lot of traveling throughout their relationship! It was such a pleasure to work with her, even though our communication became long distant when she moved to Australia for the last few months of her engagement. Good luck Kait and Tom!

Pictures- a few favorites (round 2)
It's that time again- time to add a few pictures so that eventually the blog will take the place of my old fashioned facebook album. Here are three more cakes from my past.
A birthday cake for my hometown friend's boyfriend (now fiance!) He's into planes so we tried to do something fun for that. It's always great to add a bit more dimension to the cake, so we took a trip to Michaels. The end result was a cake fit for a kid-at-heart.
One of my great friends Nichole celebrated her 16th birthday last fall and wanted it to be special. Zebra is a big trend in all things teen, and I couldn't have been more thrilled to make her cake for the occasion.
For my roommate and best friend's birthday I decided to come up with a quick cake idea. Alison loves Harry Potter and I couldn't resist the chance to practice my painting. (A simple technique of using dye powder with lemon juice. It makes a great paint for fondant layers!) Her last name being Huffstetler, she naturally supported the Hufflepuff House (colors of Black and Yellow) so that was a great starting point. The end result was a cape, pictured here, with my proudest part the HP font.

Blogs all around!
I have a few big events coming up for the summer, but in the meantime I thought I'd pat myself on the back a bit. A friend and cupcake bride from last summer sent me a link to a blog she found from her wedding. She mentioned that it was not the first where my cupcakes were featured. Wedding cupcakes are an up and coming trend in wedding dessert these days and I was so honored to bake for her big day. Scroll down on the blog for a picture or two.

Melissa and Clayton
I've been so excited to work with Melissa and Clayton for their cake plans. They're both really design-savvy and have had a lot of great input for the plans for their cake. It's been so affirming to know that someone with so much artistic ability supports my ideas! Another incredible part about our little journey as couple and cake designer is that they've turned it all into a reciprocal business transaction. In order to get their design talents off the ground they're helping me to recreate my business cards, invoices, and cake templates. I couldn't be more excited to see what they have to offer. As the date gets closer I'll be sure to post some of my sketches and ideas. For now, get to know the couple by checking out their website!

Pictures- a few favorites!
Getting Started
I've been lucky enough to be making cakes for almost 7 years now and with the trust that friends and clients have shown me, my mini business has grown. I realized recently that to hold my own I'd need another way to advertise. This blog will include mostly pictures and contact information, but also a few anecdotes about my experiences, since that's generally the purpose of a blog. I'll be featuring old cakes from time to time in order to bring those pictures to my blog. Although facebook has been a great avenue to display them so far, it's time to take the step up I need! Thank you to those of you who have already supported me wholeheartedly!
